Switches

May 27th, 2005 by Rick

I’m making slow progress. The other day I got the power door luck switch hooked up. I’m only using one. I’m putting it in the center console instead of the doors and it doesn’t make much sense to have two there. Hopefully the wires will still be long enough when everything is tucked under the dash. Last night I hooked up the power window switches. When I get them mounted in the console I will take a picture and post it here.

More Misc. Junk

Ok, time for an update. I haven’t posted anything lately because I haven’t accomplished anything major. I have done several small things though, so that’s worthy of an update I suppose.

After my cooling problems last week I removed the thermostat, hooked up the temp gauge and went for a drive. Everything was fine. I boiled the thermostat to check it and it tested out fine. So I put it back in and went for another drive, this one longer than the others. Again everything was fine. I watched the temp climb, then the thermostat opened and it dropped. Perfect. I’m thinking it got hot before because it was the first time running it in months, so the gas was old and the car didn’t like that. It was idling real high at first. Eventually it smoothed out, so it probably just cleared the gunk through the lines and all is well now.

After all that drama was taken care of I installed and hooked up the new temp gauge sender. I ran the car for a few minutes to test the gauge and all seems well. The oil pressure sender doesn’t look like it will be so easy.

I finally sat down to figure out how to wire my new power door locks and tested it. I also layed out the center console. I am going to use just one door lock switch and it will go next to the ash tray cover. The window switches will go side by side in the console, similar to how they are on the stock Fiero. I have yet to decide what to do about the lights or the power mirror switch. I’m thinking the light switches might go next to the shifter. It looks like there is just barely enough room there for them, though I’m afraid it will look clunky. For the mirrors, I have a few choices. I could put it between the window switches like the stock Fiero. I could also put it where the ash tray door goes. I have no need for an ash tray so that would fill that space. Another option is to put a Dodge Stealth mirror switch on the dash, under the drivers side vent. I have one sitting around somewhere, but have yet to check to see if it would fit there or if I could even make it work right.

Misc. Junk

I’ve done a lot of little things over the last few days. I cleaned out the garage and moved the car in there so I can work at night. I stole the battery out of my other Fiero to put in this one because this one was completely dead. In the process I burned a hole in my jeans with battery acid. Way to go moron. I also bolted down my loose body panels, though some will need more bolts or rivets later.

I put a seat and the old gauge pod back in and took her for a ride last night. She’s been sitting for quite some time now so I wanted to get the fluids moving. I put some fuel treatment in but never ran it to get it into the fuel lines so I wanted to do that too. It started off idling real high but that went away after a couple of minutes. The temp. warning light came on, thankfully just as I was pulling up to the house. I had disconnected the temp sender the night before so I don’t know how hot it got. I was going to connect it real quick so I could see where the gauge was at, but wouldn’t you know it, the connector was sitting on the exhaust and melted. I’m on a role. I’m assuming the thermostat is stuck because it never ran hot before.
