Diablo Tail Lights

June 23rd, 2005 by Rick

Well, I thought I was going to be the first to do this but apparently not, so not much point in hiding it. I’m installing Lamborghini Diablo 6.0 tail lights in my Fiero. Earlier today I saw a picture of a black Fiero GT with Diablo 6.0 lights. His were turned sideways though, and it looks like he’s using the European tail lights.

The tail light panel is from Kahines.com. It is the “uncut” version. The lenses fit perfectly in the recesses. I thought I was going to have to mold my Diablo tail light buckets and fiberglass them into this panel, but this is much easier. I will have to cut the body however. The area that the stock lights screw into interferes with the light assemblies. This panel mounts differently though, so no problem cutting them.

This is a picture of the panel installed and the lenses screwed into the panel. There is still much work to do.

Tail Lights

I’ve run into a snag on my interior install which is why I haven’t been posting updates. I installed the new oil pressure sender recently, then found out that you need to use both the stock and the vdo senders. Figures, I even cut the wires to the stock connector. So now I have to find a T fitting that will allow me to use both. I’m also not confident I know how to wire it correctly. There is not a lot of room in there so it may force me to move the battery to the front. That’s something I wanted to do eventually, but not now.

I’ve also been a bit distracted by another mod I decided to tackle. I won’t give details yet, but it’s a tail light mod that’s similar but slightly different to what has been done before. I think it’s different enough to be really cool. It looks like it will be easier than I thought too. I didn’t want to post anything until I verified that it would work. I checked it tonight and it looks like it will require a bit of cutting but it should work. Stay tuned for details and pics once it’s complete.

Switches

I finally got around to mounting the power door lock and power window switches in the console. They work great and the window switches light up whent the lights are on. Please excuse the mess in the pic below. Eventually the console will be upholstered in tan and the insert that the switches mount to will be painted flat black.

I still have to figure out how and where to mount the light switches and power mirror switch. I’m thinking of putting the mirror switches where the ash tray goes since I don’t plan on using an ash tray. I’ve been considering putting the stock light switches next to the shifter. I think that would be easiest but I’m not sure it will fit and I’m not sure how it will look. I also have to decide if I want to use stock Fiero mirror switches or not. If I do they probably won’t be easy to mount and make look good. I was thinking of using a mirror switch from a Dodge Stealth since I had one laying around. I have been unable to find it though, so that might not work out.
